It was brutal, but we're here, and it's spectacular. We left Rochester Friday at 11 am, and got to Rome on Saturday at 9:00 am (really about 2:30 in the morning to us). Then it was a train from the airport to Rome central...sheep grazing on the side of the tracks.
Our hotel has that European rustic charm...old, quaint, up a million flights of stairs, or via antique elevator. And we couldn't check in until 1 p.m., so we had to drag our tired selves around sightseeing immediately. Not that it's such a hardship, because the temperature was in the mid-70s, it was sunny, blue sky, and full of amazing sights wherever you look. To the right is Rich throwing a coin in the Trevi fountain. For the uninitiated, that means you will return to Rome, which is good, since this is where our flight leaves from in a few weeks!
We saw lots of fountains, exclusive shops, the Spanish Steps, and gelaterias today. Tomorrow, it's onto the train to Sorrento. We also stopped into a couple of very scenic churches. There's one on every corner (or closer)...kind of like bars in Renovo. (in-joke for Kat's family) They take their religion pretty seriously...this looks like an angel not to be trifled with! More tomorrow when I'm not exhausted. Ciao!
